Labor Laws in Italy
While considering an executive search in Italy, it is important to familiarize yourself with Italian labor laws. Here are some Italian labor law points to know during your company’s executive search.
Most contracts of employment in Italy are considered indefinite. Italian labor laws only allow fixed-term contracts in the case of seasonal work, replacement work, or temporary work.
According to Italian labor laws, an employee cannot exceed eight hours a day, or 48 hours a week. An interim manager or any other employee who works more than 40 hours a week is eligible for overtime. Overtime pay must be at least 10 percent higher than the normal working wage, though it is often closer to 30 percent in most of Italy.
All employees in Italy are entitled to a minimum of eight days paid leave per year, though most companies authorize up to 21 days of paid vacation per year of employment. Maternity leave for expecting mothers is given two months before the birth of a child, and for three months after birth.
