Labor Laws in Slovakia
Hiring executives in Slovakia should not be taken lightly, and you must be aware of the local laws and norms before starting the search process. While investigating the possibility of conducting an executive search in Slovakia, it is important to gain a clear understanding of Slovakia's labor laws. Here are some labor laws to consider.
The statutory working week in Slovakia may not exceed 40 hours. Depending on the type of work, normal working hours may range from 37.5 to 40 hours a week. Employees normally work 5 days a week. The work break is oft 30 minutes. Working overtime is not customary and employees are entitled to compensation for working overtime, on top of their normal wage. The average weekly work time (including overtime), must not exceed 48 hours.
After five years of fiscal consolidation, fiscal policy easing in 2014 and 2015 has provided room for strengthening measures to raise inclusive growth, notably active labour market programmes and social security exemptions for low-wage workers. However, as the Slovak Republic has one of the fastest ageing populations in Europe, further debt reduction is needed in the medium term.
