Major Achievements

Turnaround of a $220m pet food manufacturer with 4 plants and 500 employees from a statutory loss of c$77m to EBITDA of $15m over two years. Product offering included branded and retail house brands but business model was neither high margin nor low cost. The business had limited financial reporting capability, inadequate standard costing system, no ERP system and limited understanding of product contribution. It maintained multiple data bases; in an unsupported version of an accounting system built around each individual business unit. The organization structure lacked accountability and key managers were generally out of touch with the metrics of the business. Upgraded management, built new performance based culture, installed controls & systems, rationalised plants,improved operating efficiencies and increased gross margins. Transitioned business to a focused private label strategy.
