After a one year assignment in Paris, he was appointed Human Resources and Public Affairs Manager of a newly created world-scale chemical plant in Southern France. In 1993 he became Manager of Industry and External Affairs, Southern Europe. In September 1997 his responsibilities have been extended to the whole of Europe. This function remainded unchanged after the acquisition of ARCO Chemical by Lyondell Chemical Company in July 1998.
